Headquartered in Los Angeles, with local offices and staff hired from the communities we serve, CORE is built to respond anywhere – and to stay. Your support keeps critical assistance flowing long after the headlines fade, sustaining ongoing responses and longer-term recovery wherever communities are still rebuilding.
As the climate crisis worsens, communities everywhere face more frequent and extreme disasters: powerful early-season hurricanes, once-in-a-generation floods, and devastating wildfires that increasingly reach major cities. CORE’s climate resilience program works alongside vulnerable communities to build climate action plans and strengthen their readiness before disaster hits. As we brace for what’s ahead, the Emergency Response Fund powers an estimated 12 emergency responses each year.

HURRICANE ISAIAS
CORE is responding to Hurricane Isaias, the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, which made landfall near Destin, Florida as a Category 2 storm. Heavy rain and hurricane-force winds tore roofs off homes, brought down trees and power lines, and caused flooding across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. Hundreds of thousands of households throughout the region lost power for days.
Families living in mobile homes are often hit hardest by storms like this. Our emergency response team is on the ground assessing needs and mobilizing to tarp roofs on mobile homes in impacted areas.

WE ARE RESPONDING
HURRICANE LOWELL & HURRICANE LALA
CORE is responding to a string of intense storms impacting Hawai’i, with active responses currently underway on the Big Island and Kauai. Communities there are recovering from Hurricane Lala and Hurricane Lowell, both of which brought flooded roads, damaged homes, toppled trees, and caused widespread power outages. Rural farmers, in particular, are bearing the brunt of these storms.
CORE has been tapping into local networks and working side by side with community organizers to make sure impacted families get what they need. That looks like delivering essentials like water, food, toilet paper, trash bags, and gas cans; supporting local distribution hubs; supplying generators, and more.
This isn’t new ground for us — CORE has been in Hawaii since March, when devastating floods impacted communities on O’ahu and Moloka‘i. Our teams have helped clear debris and assisted farmers and small business owners looking to rebuild.

SPOKANE WILDFIRES
CORE is responding in Spokane, Washington, where wildfires devastated entire neighborhoods and temporarily displaced tens of thousands of families from their homes. Coordinating closely with local partner Veterans Community Response (VCR) – and with support from Save the Children and Good360 – we delivered water, air purifiers, and home cleaning kits to hundreds of families in need, along with cash assistance to help them get back on their feet. Moving forward, we’re prioritizing flexible cash assistance to help families cover housing, bills, and everyday expenses – whatever they need most to get through the months ahead.

VENEZUELA EARTHQUAKES
With support from the Wayuu Taya Foundation, CORE is responding to the devastating back-to-back earthquakes that struck near Caracas, Venezuela within seconds of each other. The tremors, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, have left entire communities in ruins, and many families have nothing but the clothes on their back.
Months later, our teams are still on the ground in Caracas and La Guaira. Tens of thousands of families are still living in displacement camps and temporary shelters, many afraid to return to damaged homes. Beyond delivering emergency food, clean water, and hygiene kits, CORE is actively clearing debris, providing critical shelter support, and making repairs that will help these families return home as quickly and safely as possible.

MIDDLE EAST EMERGENCY
Escalating conflict in the Middle East has resulted in mass displacement, with many families crossing borders and leaving behind their homes, belongings, and often loved ones in search of safety.
In Syria, there’s been a staggering 250% increase in Syrians returning from Lebanon – that’s anywhere between 3,500 and 12,200 families each day. But after a decade of war and widespread destruction, Syria has very limited capacity to receive people in need.
With ongoing operations in Syria, CORE is positioned to provide vulnerable families with cash assistance to help them meet urgent needs like food, water, shelter, and medicine.

On January 7, 2025, several major wildfires erupted across the greater Los Angeles area. More than 16,000 structures were destroyed – including homes, schools, and businesses. This devastating disaster has changed LA County forever.
CORE deployed an emergency response team on day 1 – and will continue to support families impacted by the fires over the years-long journey to recovery. We’ve already supported more than 25,000 people with vital relief supply distributions, cash assistance, and more.
One year later, we are addressing the long-term challenges of rebuilding and recovery through our comprehensive 5-year community recovery plan.

North Carolina and Georgia
It’s been over a year since Hurricane Helene caused a 500-mile path of destruction spanning from Florida to North Carolina. After deploying rapid response teams to Georgia and North Carolina to meet immediate needs, CORE expanded operations into Swannanoa, NC. Our local team rehabilitated 25 mobile homes in the Alan Campos mobile home community.
CORE remains committed to ensuring that impacted families have access to safe and stable housing, especially during another intense hurricane season. In April 2025, we formally established the Home Rebuild Program, through which we’ve launched home repairs in vulnerable communities in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Since March 2020, CORE has been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, administering over 7 million tests and 3 million vaccinations across the country. The organization scaled exponentially to meet the unprecedented need and to fill gaps in the healthcare system in the US and beyond, resulting in countless lives saved.
