Matt Knight

Country Director, Haiti

As Country Director, Matt oversees CORE’s diverse operations across Haiti. This includes longstanding programs like the Plezi Mizik program, our years-long climate resilience work across the South, and vital emergency responses that support Haitians in times of crisis and beyond. In addition to maintaining these strategic donor partnerships and ensuring CORE’s adherence to government grants, Matt is in constant collaboration with CORE HQ’s Programs and Partnerships team to advise on local priorities, safety and security contexts, and more. He also leads staff based in Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes. Our primarily locally led programs in Haiti greatly impact CORE’s ability to effectively execute complex and diverse initiatives amid often unstable contexts.

Matt has lived and worked in Haiti since 2023 delivering crucial programs for the US Department of State, UNICEF, Irish Aid, World Food Programme, and other donors. These initiatives ranged from cholera response, WASH interventions, cash and voucher assistance for food security, cash for work, Blue Economy and other resilience programs.

Prior to working in Haiti, Matt was a Country Director in Ukraine, and Deputy Country Director in multiple country offices including Sierra Leone, Sudan, Ethiopia and Türkiye. He has a strong systems background, developed whilst working for Public Health England, and was responsible for the procurement and logistics for the UK Ebola testing facilities in Sierra Leone during the 2015 West Africa Ebola outbreak. Matt holds a Masters in Psychotherapy and a BA in Psychology.

“In a crisis as widespread and volatile as Sudan’s, it is the courage and leadership of this dedicated team and local partners that keep hope alive.”
