Sounds of Summer: CORE Supports Music and Art Camp for Haitian Youth

This summer, Plezi Mizik’s annual art and music camp brought together dozens of Haitian kids and teens for a week filled with connection, creativity, and fun. The campers gathered in classrooms to play guitars, keyboards, and drums; learn dance routines; and sing popular songs. They also created colorful beadwork and crafts to take home. Most importantly, they had time to just be kids.

The camp wrapped up with a joyful ceremony, celebrating everything they had learned and created during the week. The kids performed their favorite songs and dance routines in front of an audience and showed off their handmade crafts they’d worked on during the week.

This summer camp is part of the Plezi Mizik program in Port-au-Prince, made possible by a longstanding partnership between CORE and Music Heals International. Since 2014, the program has served as a powerful source of healing and resilience for youth in Delmas 32, a neighborhood impacted by persistent instability and violence. Over the years, Plezi Mizik has provided music education to hundreds of Haitian students and watched as they’ve developed their technical skills, confidence, and passion for music.
