CORE Distributes Thanksgiving Meals in Altadena
In November, CORE joined Representative Judy Chu in distributing 200 Thanksgiving meals to families from throughout the San Gabriel Valley. CORE volunteers arrived bright and early at the Altadena Community Center to put together Thanksgiving meal kits.
Each kit included all the fixings: stuffing, yams, potatoes, onions, pumpkin pie mix, rolls, and cranberry sauce. The San Gabriel Valley Water Company generously provided the 200 turkeys to ensure that local families had the makings of a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
This holiday season is a tough one for so many in the San Gabriel Valley who were affected by the Eaton Fire, which destroyed thousands of homes and forever changed Altadena and Pasadena. We know how important a sense of normalcy can be for impacted families and want to give people the opportunity to gather together and help put their troubles aside, at least for an evening with those they love.

We’re grateful for Rep. Judy Chu and her office’s support of CORE’s ongoing wildfire response. Since the fires began, CORE has been in Altadena, working with the community to help them return home. We’ve provided vital resources at the Disaster Recovery Center, remediated 100 homes of smoke damage, and operated a point of distribution that provided food to families in need.
Now, we’ve opened up The Hub, the heart of CORE’s five-year recovery and resilience initiative. The Hub is a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible space offering low- to no-cost services and expert support to those impacted by these wildfires as they rebuild their lives. This includes CORE’s Disaster Case Management (DCM) program, which helps fire victims navigate the complex process of returning home.
