2025 Pakistan Cloudburst Flooding

In August 2025, a powerful cloud burst event occurred in northern Pakistan, causing devastating flooding across the region. The flash floods killed hundreds, destroyed large swathes of property, and damaged countless homes.

In response to this terrible and sudden climate event, CORE partnered with Riverside Development Organization (RDO), with whom we’d worked extensively following floods in Southern Pakistan in 2022.

During that response, our teams, in partnership with RDO, responded quickly to provide access to food, hygiene kits, cash assistance, mosquito nets for animals and humans, and mobile medical clinics. In the long-term, CORE worked with local villages to implement sustainable solutions aimed at preventing the effects of future floods, including building bund walls and improving drainage.

Adressing Long-Term Needs

While working and coordinating with local authorities in the Buner District after the flooding, we identified an area of immediate need.

Many people were left without places to stay, or if they had a roof over their heads, didn’t have their belongings with them. To make matters even worse, winter conditions unfortunately arrived earlier than usual in the mountain and foothill communities in the north, leaving many exposed to the elements.

With CORE funding, RDO conducted assessments in communities to identify those most in need and provided winter and food kits to 250 households in both the Burner District and Punjab Province. These kits included essential warm items, such as heavy winter blankets and clothing, to keep families warm throughout the winter months. The food kits also included staple items that ensure families are fed for the immediate future.

We know that these once-rare events are occurring more frequently, and those most directly affected are those with fewer resources to combat and protect themselves from the climate crisis. CORE will continue to be on the frontlines, helping those most in need.
