COVID-19 VACCINES

CORE began working in Chicago in 2020, where we operated mobile COVID-19 vaccine and testing sites across the city to reach vulnerable and underserved communities most impacted by the pandemic. Over the next several years, built on a deep-rooted network of 100+ local partnerships and community trust, our team continued to support the city’s evolving public health needs until 2024.

Leveraging this experience for expanded health services, CORE, in partnership with Mobilevax, the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), and other healthcare providers, launched vaccination clinics at seven city colleges in Chicago and pop-up clinics in the community at aldermanic offices and faith-based organizations.   In response to measles and chickenpox outbreaks in late 2023, CORE further supported the CDPH team and administered vaccines to the newly arrived migrants in various shelters across Chicago. Our team also provided educational materials to help combat vaccine misinformation within the shelters and distributed thousands of hygiene kits, at-home COVID-19 tests, and over-the-counter medications for cold and flu symptoms.

OUR RESPONSE

2022-2023

Violence Prevention Program

Beyond vaccine services, CORE also worked in neighborhoods across Chicago to build community and reduce violence. In partnership with the Community Safety Coordination Center (CSCC) and other community-based organizations, CORE hired community mobilizers to listen and learn from residents, offer resources, and facilitate services to make people feel safer, such as fixing street lights, trimming overgrown trees, and restoring other public spaces previously abandoned due to gun and gang violence. They also advocated on behalf of residents, liaising with key city actors like the Chicago Police Department.

CORE also received funding from Safer Foundation to hire a Crisis Intervention Specialist to support their gun violence prevention program on the South Side of Chicago. In this role, the specialist helped connect clients to immediate services, including mental health support, housing, ride assistance, and more.
