Emergency Relief | 2022-NOW

What damage has Hurricane Fiona cause in Puerto Rico?

In September 2022, Hurricane Fiona made landfall in Puerto Rico, dumping over two feet of water in some parts of the island. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, the entire island’s electricity was cut and a million people (one-third of the population) were left without access to potable water.

Areas of Puerto Rico’s southwest region near Ponce were heavily impacted, with mountain communities severely affected by landslides, mudslides, and debris due to torrential rainfall and heavy winds.

How is CORE helping in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Fiona?

CORE is coordinating with local partners and government to support the communities in Puerto Rico most impacted by Hurricane Fiona. We are assessing needs with our partners to help families get back into their homes and support communities impacted by debris, mudslides, and landslides. Our efforts will respond to the most pressing needs of the hardest-hit and most vulnerable populations.
