CORE’s Response in Alaska
In October 2025, the remnants of Typhoon Halong slammed into the west coast of Alaska, creating widespread damage to rural coastal communities. The storm surge destroyed entire villages, and thousands of indigenous Alaskans faced devastating losses. Whole communities were evacuated to Bethel and Anchorage, hours away by plane from their homes.
With the damage so widespread and winter conditions swiftly approaching, the prospects of returning home to rebuild quickly were simply unrealistic. This reality forced families to seek temporary shelter with either local connections or relatives across the United States.
To help ease the cost of this temporary solution on both impacted families and host families, CORE worked with local community leaders to provide cash vouchers to offset increased food and heating costs.
CORE remains committed to these impacted communities and will continue seeking ways to ease the burden on them, including long-term rebuilding solutions.
